WHY THE Y?
Why the "Y"?.....Glad you ask. The YMCA in Selma serves Dallas County and the surrounding area as the most comprehensive and modern recreational family fitness center in the region. And being a YMCA means the membership fees are affordable even during tough economic times. The new YMCA was completed at its current location off Medical Center Parkway in 2006 thanks to a partnership between the community and a number of forward thinking banks. This 6 million dollar facility was conceived and constructed based upon cash pledges from great investors at a time when the economy was solid. Because of today's economy, Wall Street and the inability of banks and big public corporations to pay dividends, many of the investors who made "good faith" pledges simply can not afford to fulfill their commitments. That's why we are asking for your help. The banks have been great to offer the YMCA Board an attractive arrangement to satisfy a large portion of the remaining debt. To honor this agreement, we must raise a million dollars and we must raise it soon. Thank you for your support to the YMCA of Selma and Dallas County!
